
About 5 years after the discovery of hydrocarbons off Guyana’s shores, the 20th of December, 2019 marks a day of great historical significance for all Guyanese – an event which many hope will change the course of Guyana‘s economic path forever.
ExxonMobil has already started extraction of commercial quantities of oil at the Liza Phase 1 Development.
“This historic development for the Co-operative Republic of Guyana (CRG) is a culmination of substantial investments, perseverance, dedication, ingenuity, and the establishment of the appropriate policy environment that has the capacity to propel our nation towards sustained development,” Director of the Department of Energy, Dr. Mark Bynoe stated.
Earlier this year, it was speculated by various international bodies that Guyana “could” become the world‘s richest country “if” it uses its oil wealth wisely.
