APNU/AFC and GECOM “Inseparable.” – Lenox Shuman

Presidential Candidate for the Liberty and Justice Party, Lenox Schuman, has yesterday issued a statement that GECOM and the incumbent APNU/AFC are working in cooperation with each other to undermine a democratic electoral process in Guyana.

Mr. Schuman has been at the forefront of the drama which unfolded in Guyana since the fraudulent March 5th declaration of elections result by Mr. Clairmont Mingo – Returning Officer of Region 4. The main opposition party, a number of small parties as well as all international observers have since condemned the results prompting a court action for a recount of the ballot boxes for Region 4. International bodies have even gone as far as warning of sanctions on those who seek the benefits of electoral fraud.

Currently the matter is before the court. We are anticipating that tomorrow we are going to have at least clarity on how the court proceedings will go. They are debating on whether or not the court has the jurisdiction to hear the matter. But that being said, I want to ensure that there is clarity on a few points. The first is that the Guyana Elections Commission and the APNU/AFC are inseparable. I say that because Mr. Darren Wade and Mr. Roysdale Forde, who are both candidates for the APNU/AFC, have previously represented the Guyana Elections Commission. I have said it before also that that in itself is a conflict of interest. – Lennox Schuman – March 26th, 2020.

Mr. Schuman also noted only one political party is presently objecting to a recount of votes for Region 4 – the APNU/AFC, and although some party members of the APNU/AFC have issued watered down statements in support of a recount, no affirmative action have been taken in support of those statements.

Additionally, he commended and cautioned those standing watch on the ballot box containers in Georgetown.
