An unfortunate and frightening encounter with a caiman has left a Rupununi youth badly injured. This publication was informed that Russel Allicock was attacked by a caiman during a fishing trip in the Rupununi sometime around Sunday, 26th of March, 2023.

According to reports received, the youth was attacked and bitten by the caiman which cut off one of his hands. He was rushed to the Lethem Region Hospital where he is presently being treated and his condition is listed as stable.

Team Guyana, South America extends heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of Russell Allicock, and wishes him a speedy recovery. We’d also like to urge all Guyanese, as well as tourists to Guyana, to tread with caution when exploring the wild.
