Last updated: September 1, 2023 at 3:19 amA young man is now battling for his life and a family is in a state of distress after a 32-year-old man allegedly doused the face of a 19-year-old youth with an acid mixture causing him severe burns. According to the family of the victim, 19 year old Lorenzo Fredericks left his hometown of Lethem, Region 9 to work in an interior region in Mahdia, Region 7, several years ago. On the 28th of August, 2023, he got into an altercation with the suspect, 32 year old Joshua Mangar, who allegedly doused the youth with an acid mixture while he was asleep later that night.
Lorenzo woke up with burns about his face and chest. He was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital, but the next day, 29th of August, 2023, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital because of the severity of his burns. After committing the terrible act, the suspect fled the scene, but was later arrested by police.
The suspect, 32 year old Joshua Mangar, of Linden, Region 10, in 2019 had his driver’s license permanently revoked for repeated “driving under the influence of alcohol” offenses. Lorenzo’s family are crying out for justice as they say the young man is in a lot of pain and presently cannot open his eyes. They are calling on the Guyana Police Force to execute a swift and speedy justice for the young man.
