Three Region 9 Residents Killed in Accident in Neighboring Brazil

Three Region 9 residents were tragically killed today, 26th of May, 2023 in an accident in neighboring Brazil. This publication understands that the group were on their way to the Brazilian city of Boa Vista, which is about 2 hours’ drive from Lethem. The accident reportedly took place on the BR-401 Highway about 80 kilometers from the municipality of Bonfim which borders Lethem.

While details of the accident are not clear at this moment, we understand that the pickup truck in which the group were traveling collided with a commercial truck coming from the opposite direction. It is not clear as yet whose fault it was.

A Lethem businessman, Carmichael Joseph, 49 years old, who was the proprietor of City Boys Nightclub in Tabatinga, Lethem, was killed along with his son, Lindomar Santos Joseph. 20 years old. A Region 9 healthcare worker, Juanita Honorio, of Tiger Pond Village (near to Karasabai) was also killed in the tragic accident.

Team Guyana, South America extends heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of the three persons killed in this tragic accident.

Update:

Report from Brazilian Police states that the three Guyanese who were recently killed in an accident in Brazil were on their way to Boa Vista when the driver of the vehicle they were in lost control at a curve and crashed into the truck which was coming from the opposite direction.

The driver of the truck also suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital in Bonfim.
