In this article, we’re going to tell you a little bit about this fantastic tourist destination about 17 miles from the town of Linden. You’ve probably heard of it. It’s called Rockstone and it’s absolutely breathtaking.

During my most recent adventure driving from Georgetown to Lethem, I somehow misread the signboard and took the road leading to Rockstone Village instead of the trail to Mabura. About ten miles in, something told me to stop one of the traversing vehicles and ask if I were on the right track. I was told I was heading to Rockstone so I had to turn back. But something struck me: why were so many vehicles going in and out of Rockstone? What was there to do or see? There had to be something special about this place. A few months later, I met a resident of Rockstone by the name of Selena Persaud who gave me more information and insights into Rockstone Village. She also contributed this beautiful and insightful article to this publication.

Rockstone Village in Region 10 is a Rapidly Emerging Tourism Destination

Located about 17 miles away from the bauxite mining town of Linden in region 10, the village of Rockstone continues to attract visitors who are interested in a weekend getaway or camp. Emphasized is its ease of access, the picturesque Essequibo river, an abundance of fish, rock formations, and rain forests.

The hope is to develop packages, tours, and bus operations. With our recently trained first-aiders and the village ambulance on standby, we are ready for any emergency.

Currently works and concepts are ongoing for an Eco lodge, a two bedroom room nestled next to the creek, a deck at the landing, a new sanitary block at landing for our patrons, and refurbishment of guesthouse at landing, kayaks, etc for which funding, branding, and partnership are currently being sought.

Tours on the river via our experienced tour captains who have also completed Marad certification will provide you with an unforgettable experience of seeing the rapids, flora and fauna. And if you’re fortunate to catch some fish, that will gave a sense of satisfaction. Overnight camps, camping, hiking, and trail walks are also provided.

The Amerindian culture also saturates life at Rockstone, and if you are interested in seeing the preparation of cassava bread, farine, roasted fish, or just to sip on Amerindian drinks, those can be arranged.

Notable activities include pun deh Beach Easter weekend, heritage celebrations, in September, and fish extravaganza October. 19 and 20th.

We are currently building village capacity with training in hospitality, service, and delivery with GTA and the RTTC so as to improve and better our tourism and hospitality services. We aren’t there yet, but we’re inviting you on our journey as we make baby steps to improve and develop, as you enjoy our services, people, nature, and God’s creation.

Visit Rockstone will eventually be a trend, and we’re looking forward to having you on our bandwagon.
