Mohameds’ Extradition: Both Defense and Prosecution Claim Victory in High Court Ruling

In a bizarre turn of events, both the defense and prosecution in the Mohameds’ extradition hearing claimed victory in the High Court Ruling handed down on the morning of Tuesday 24th of February 2026 in Georgetown, Region 4, Guyana.

Attorney General of Guyana, Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall, told reporters outside the High Court today that the ruling handed down by Chief Justice Navindra Singh “clears the way” for the extradition process to continue. Nandlall further expressed frustration at what he believes are “delay tactics” employed by the Mohameds to frustrate their extradition process.

Azzrudin and Nazar Mohamed, a father/son duo, are currently fighting extradition to the United States where they are wanted to answer 18 charges of alleged financial crimes. They recently moved to the High Court to block the extradition process on grounds that the legislation is faulty or “unconstitutional.” However, according to Guyana’s Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General, as well as most media houses, the High Court “struck down” the Mohameds’ appeal, clearing the way for the extradition process.

Azzrudin Mohamed, however, painted a different picture via his social media pages, claiming that the court ruling works in his favor to block the extradition process. Further, sister of Azzrudin Mohamed, Hana Mohamed, made several social media posts supporting this claim.

The Mohameds’ extradition process began about four months ago after a formal request by the United States.
