Atta: A Nature Retreat in the Heart of a Rainforest

In December 2025 to January 2026, I spent 35 days at the Atta Rainforest Lodge in the Iwokrama Forest Reserve. The Atta Rainforest Lodge is perhaps the only ecolodge in Guyana which is completely surrounded by rich, green rainforest, the natural jungle, which gives you a complete rainforest immersion. From wild hogs to the beautiful hummingbird, I came face to face with some of the jungle’s most exquisite fauna.

Currently, the Atta Rainforest Lodge boasts 8 self-contained cabins beautifully designed with a blend of simplicity and style. Each cabin is fondly named after the flora and fauna of the rainforest. For example, there is the Red Howler Monkey room, the Purpleheart room, the Jaguar room, and the Collard Peccary room. I stayed in the Purpleheart room.

For the modest fee of 40,000 Guyana dollars (200 USD) per night, Atta Rainforest Lodge delivers a complete package which includes a dedicated tour guide who takes you for daily walks up the canopy walkway and through the forest trails, three meals, and coffee and tea around the clock. The friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable staff of Atta Rainforest Lodge will make you feel at home away from home.

The Food is Always Superb!

The expert chefs and cooks at the Atta Rainforest Lodge prepares food for guest in a timely manner. Management takes note of any special requests and advisories, such as allergies, and customizes the menu accordingly. The food at Atta Rainforest Lodge is always superb!

Calista, fondly called “mama” is one of the amazing chefs who prepare the food at Atta Rainforest Lodge.

The weather at Atta Rainforest Lodge is beautiful. The temperature averages 25 degrees Celsius. I particularly enjoyed the refreshing cold-water showers early in the morning which supercharged my body with extra energy.

Dinner Under the Stars!

There is a culture at Atta Rainforest Lodge to serve guests dinner under the open skies with lights that create a starlike effect. They call it “dinner under the stars.” Dinner under the stars creates a remarkable atmosphere to compliment your nature experience.

Breakfast in Open Air

This is the rainforest. So what better way is there than to have breakfast in the open air? It’s all part of the Atta Rainforest Lodge experience.

The Iwokrama Canopy Walkway

Just about 500 metres away from the Lodge is the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway which allows you to observe the rainforest high up in the forest canopy. Getting to the canopy walkway might test you physically, but the view from the top is breathtaking. Your tour guide will equip you with binoculars.
