Mohabir Anil Nandlall, said in a Facebook Live broadcast today, 7th of October, 2025, that Guyana will put up no resistance if the United States requests the extradition of Nazar and Azzrudin Mohamed. In mid 2024, the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had announced sanctions against the business magnates and some of their enterprises locally and abroad, including Mohamed’s Enterprise and Hadi’s World. More than one year later, on 5th of October, 2025, US law enforcement tightened the screw by announcing that the Mohameds have been indicted by a grand jury in the US Southern Federal District. Charges include money laundering, wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
As we mentioned in our previous article on the subject, it was speculative that the PPP/C government would put up no resistance to the extradition request by the United States if or when it comes. The Mohameds have, over the last year, shortly after the OFAC sanctions, had a fallout with the PPP/C government and is currently perceived as an enemy of the government. Azzrudin Mohamed alleges that the PPP/C government is pushing the US to persecute him because of his political ambitions. He is currently the leader of the main opposition political party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) and is expected to take up the reigns of the main opposition leader in parliament.
Nandlall, in his live broadcast, explained that Guyana shares a long history of cooperation with the United States where it comes to extradition, and that at least one person was extradited over the last year. He said that the United States and Guyana share an extradition treaty dating back 100 years to the time of British Colonial Rule. Nandlall further explained that the United States has not yet written to the Guyana government requesting the extradition of the Mohameds, but that the request is expected to come shortly, and when it does, Guyana will cooperate fully in handing over the Mohameds to US law enforcement.
Meanwhile, sister of Azzrudin Mohamed, Hana Mohamed, has made an urgent appeal to the Guyanese public to stand against this “injustice.”
