A whooping, unprecedented 1.5 trillion Guyana dollar budget was approved in Parliament today, 26th of January, 2026 as Finance Minister Hon. Ashni Singh delivered a compelling argument for its passage. This level of financing is expected to a catapult Guyana, which is already the world’s fastest growing economy, to a whole new level. The 2026 budget is the biggest ever since Guyanese independence, hundreds of millions more than last year’s unprecedented 1.4 trillion Guyana dollars. This mammoth financial breakthrough will see Guyana’s infrastructure developing at a never-before-seen pace, as well as significant human resource development. Guyana is now poised to become a leader not only in the Caribbean and South America, but the world over.
Speaking at the national budget presentation today, 26th of January 2026, at the Arthur Chung Conference Center in Georgetown, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced the theme of the budget: putting people first.
