A Region 9 family has reached out to this publication for help in airing their plight after their loved one died suddenly in a mining area in Region 7, Guyana. According to the family, 55-year-old Aubrey Miguel was recruited by an acquaintance to go to work in a mining area known as Isano Landing in Region 7. Subsequently, they lost contact with him and became worried after not hearing from him for a long time.
Ingrid Miguel, the sister of the deceased, said she received the dreadful call from Region 7 police this morning, 15th of July 2026, informing him that Aubrey Miguel was found floating in a river. According to the police, the body had already started swelling when it was found. The police informed Ingrid that money is needed to transport the body to Bartica since there is no mortuary in that area where he died. During conversation with Ingrid, the police said they would contact the employer of the deceased to see if any money was owed to him which could be used to help pay for the transportation of the body to Bartica. However, the family would have to raise the rest.

According to Ingrid Miguel, the police subsequently informed her that the employer said that they had paid Aubrey Miguel his full salary prior to him going off and disappearing, but that they would nevertheless assist with part of the cost for transporting the body to Bartica. That’s just part of the problem. After police investigations are complete, the body will have to be transported home to the family in Region 9 for funeral service and burial at an additional cost.
Ingrid Miguel related to this publication that this tragedy has caught them off-guard and unprepared for the heavy financial burden. For this reason, they would be grateful for public support in tiding them over this hurdle.
