GPF| At about 05:30 hrs this morning (Thursday, 31st of August, 2023), the body of 13-year-old Hasini Mack was found floating in the Upper Demerara River near the western side of Coomacka Beach.

At the time, the teen’s mother, community members, along with ranks from the Mackenzie Police Station, were continuing their search in the Coomacka mines beach area for the body of the deceased.

The body was fished out of the river and examined by Detective Constable Wilson. No marks of violence were seen on the most exposed part of the body, which was then escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex, and pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The body is at G-Jetsco Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The child went missing on Tuesday, August 29 about 16:30 hrs, during an outing with several other persons.

Police disclosed that around 14:00 hrs the 13-year-old left his home in the company of a 29-year-old Canadian national, his 25-year-old wife (an American national), both of Kara Kara, Mackenzie, Linden and four (4) other juveniles, to go swimming at the Coomaka Mines beach.

On arrival, 13-year-old Hassini along with the four (4) other children and the 29-year-old man (Canadian national) went into the water where they were playing some ‘games.’

However, at about 16:30 hrs, the victim and one of the other juvenile, a 14 year-old from Wismar, Linden went to wash off by the river side. As they began to walk towards the center of the river, the water started to flow at a fast rate which caused Hassini to sink.

As they began to shout for help, the 29-year-old Canadian national ran to their assistance and managed to rescue the 14-year-old. The man attempted to rescue 13-year-old Hassini Mack but by that time he had sank and disappeared.

Team Guyana, South America extend heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of Hasini Mack. May his beautiful soul rest in peace.
